📢 As part of the ongoing Sanitary Sewer Project on East Valley Street and Walden Road, the Town of Abingdon has announced that the intersection of Boone Street and Walden Road will now be closed, with the exception of local traffic only.
This change may impact the car rider line at E.B. Stanley Middle School, and those wishing to go back through town using Boone Street. This portion of the project is expected to last two to three weeks.
Please plan for extra time during drop-off and pick-up, and continue to use patience as these necessary improvements to Abingdon’s infrastructure move forward.

Here are a few reminders about our car rider line in the mornings and afternoons:
1. Pull all the way up to the white line for drop off or pick up.
2. At drop off, as soon as you stop by the sidewalk your student can exit the vehicle.
3. At pick up, do not line up in front of the school until 2:55. If you arrive before that time, you must get in the car rider line and wait behind the white line by the basketball court fence.
4. Use caution and patience when merging from the 4 lanes into one lane as you pull up to the school. Also use caution when you pull around parked cars as students may be crossing the parking lot.
5. Transportation changes and early checkouts MUST be made prior to 2:30 each afternoon.

For Your Information:
As many of you are aware, the Town of Abingdon’s ongoing Sanitary Sewer Project on East Valley Street and Walden Road will continue into the start of the school year. While the first days back can always feel a little hectic, this construction project may make an already busy time more challenging for some.
We want you to know that we have been working closely with the Town of Abingdon, Abingdon Police Department, and Abingdon Fire Department to help ensure traffic flows as smoothly and safely as possible during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
Schools Impacted:
*E.B. Stanley Middle School
*Abingdon High School
*Washington County Career & Technical Education Center
Traffic Control Support: To assist with traffic management, additional police and fire personnel will be stationed at several key intersections during these times.
*Stanley Street and Thompson Drive
*Boone Street and Main Street
*Tanner Street and Main Street (Morning)
*Tanner Street and Valley Street (Afternoon)
*Pecan Street and Main Street (Traffic will be controlled by the light)
Important Notes:
*If you’re leaving E.B. Stanley Middle School, we recommend avoiding a right turn onto Stanley Street, due to increased congestion. For those of you heading toward East Abingdon, Baugh Lane may be an easier option.
*For all schools, arriving earlier than usual will help ease traffic and reduce stress.
*Please exercise patience and caution as everyone adjusts to the changes.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we navigate these necessary improvements to the Town of Abingdon’s infrastructure. With your help, we’re confident we can ensure a safe and efficient start to the school year for all students.

PARENTS! Encourage your child to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge.
Second Lady Usha Vance has invited K-8 students to participate in the Second Lady’s 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. Joining is easy: Read 12 books of your choice between June 1 and September 5 and track your progress on the official reading log. Students who complete the challenge with parent/guardian input can earn a personalized certificate and a small prize. All finalists will also be entered into a drawing for the chance to win a visit to the Nation’s Capital with a chaperone. You can learn more at wh.gov/read.

Our students are getting a unique learning experience with a very special guest -- Rosemary the cow! The Mobile Dairy Classroom is visiting several of our schools over the next few days, teaching students about dairy farming, cow care, and the importance of agriculture. They even get to see a live milking demonstration!
This program, provided by the Southwest Dairy Museum, gives students a closer look at where milk comes from, and the role dairy farmers play in our communities.
