The Gifted education students of Meadowview Elementary School took a field trip on February 21, 2023 to the Birthplace of Country Music Museum in downtown Bristol, Virginia. The field trip showed the students how country music came about and the importance that Southwestern Virginia and Northwestern Tennessee played in the beginning of the musical heritage. Bristol, is the true birthplace of country music and the particular styles of bluegrass and music made popular by singers/groups such as Tennessee Ernie Ford (one of Bristol’s most famous musicians), and the Carter Family after which the Carter Fold is named. The students learned all about how country music and other local genres of music began and how they are connected to their region of the world. Students learned about folk and bluegrass music, how various instruments are played; as well as about how regional musicians rose to their fame. Meadowview Elementary gifted students really enjoyed the Birthplace of Country Music Museum.
